Collective learning sequences

Collective learning sequences take place in the mornings before the 10:00 am break in the framework of the content areas "languages", "mathematics" and "sciences". In order to stimulate the thinking skills of the pupils, the teacher gives an introduction to a topic at the beginning of these phases. Then the pupils execute observation, discovery and analysis tasks individually or in groups. At the end, the sequence is concluded with a common synthesis.

Further collective learning sequences take place in the afternoons from 1:45 pm to 3:30 pm, particularly in the areas of "languages", "sciences", "body and health", "arts" and "community life and values”. These phases are organized in workshops, in which pupils are required to enroll. However, each pupil is free to choose one of the workshops on offer. He/she agrees voluntarily to take part in this workshop until the following school holidays, i.e. for about a six week period.

The teacher determines the topic of his workshop and is responsible for organization and evaluation. If necessary, he/she plans and organizes his workshop together with an external agent.

Individual learning sequences

The individual learning sequences take place after the morning break, i.e. after 10:30 am and can be organized in two ways:

a. Each pupil uses a work plan adapted to his/her capacities, which enables him/her to structure the week and at the same time covers the subjects "languages", "mathematics" and "sciences". He/she is accompanied by the teacher or a tutor for the duration of the work. At the end of the week, some activities of the work plan are commented by the teacher and the pupil and submitted to the parents.

b. Each pupil chooses a project topic that he works on in collaboration with a tutor, following certain procedure:

  • Choose a theme
  • Formulate questions
  • Research information
  • Interview an expert
  • Collect and classify information
  • Schedule a presentation
